New $3k small business recovery grant

17 June 2020 pmwplus

An archived June 2020 update. The NSW Treasurer announced a new Recovery Support Grant to help small businesses reopen following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions state-wide. (Always check Service NSW for current programs and eligibility.)

What we knew at the time

Applications opened 1 July 2020 and closed 16 August 2020. The grant could be used to cover marketing and advertising, fit-out changes, and training staff to work safely under the health conditions – for expenses from 1 July where no other government support was available.

Eligibility

Eligible businesses and not-for-profits had to meet a range of criteria, including: an ABN registered in NSW as at 1 March 2020; total Australian wages below the 2019-20 payroll tax threshold of $900,000; fewer than 20 full-time-equivalent staff; annual turnover above $75,000; a decline in turnover of at least 30% from March to July 2020 versus the equivalent 2019 period; being in a highly impacted industry; and having costs from 1 July 2020 associated with safely re-opening. Businesses affected by drought or natural disaster, or not operating 12 months earlier, had alternative comparison periods.
